Lex Simakas is a composer, arranger, producer, audio engineer, and Emmy®-nominated music editor based in Philadelphia. A recent recipient of a master’s degree in Music Technology from Temple University, Lex has applied his skills as a music editor at NFL Films, where he has worked on shows such as Hard Knocks (HBO), Quarterback (Netflix, Emmy®-nominated), Receiver (Netflix), A Football Life (NFL Network), Peyton’s Places (ESPN), Inside the NFL (The CW), and several others. He has also done mix work for A Football Life and NFL Films Presents, and was an assistant location sound recordist for Vince's Places (ESPN).
As a composer, Lex comfortably writes in several musical styles, including contemporary classical, jazz, downtempo electronic, funk, folk, and ambient. In his music, Lex enjoys exploring alternate tuning systems, as well as the use of his voice, kalimba, and common household objects. He strives to strike the right balance between synthetic/organic, immaculate/imperfect, and complexity/accessibility. He finds inspiration in literature, art, film, nature, and countless musical influences.
Lex is also active in Philadelphia as a Zoom technician for The Philadelphia Jazz Legacy Project and as a website manager for Andrea Clearfield’s Salon, a concert series that has graced the local music scene for over 37 years.
As a master’s student at Temple, Lex studied under Dr. Adam Vidiksis, Dr. Sarah Belle Reid, Dr. David Pasbrig, and Patrick de Caumette.
